Organizing Is the New Cool Documentary Premiers in Atlanta!
ATLANTA, GA – May 21, 2019 – On Saturday June 8th the highly anticipated, documentary film “Organizing Is the New Cool” will make its debut in Atlanta, Georgia. Centered around the 15 year journey of social justice organization FTP Movement, and its collective mobilization to provide food, clothing, shelter and justice for all, “Organizing is the New Cool” canvasses many souls of activism that are making an impact today. Utilizing interviews and unscripted footage of people in need, along with popular and unsung activists, the film provides a multilayered depiction of this new brand of advocacy encouraged by the filmmakers. The aim is for the film to educate, inspire, and equip viewers to be the change they want to see in the world. “The film stands as a multimedia renunciation of out molded stereotypes about activists. It showcases how a new cadre of champions for the underserved reinvent collective organizing” says Kalonji Changa, a seasoned community organizer and one of the films four co-producers. A documentary film 13 years in the making, “Organizing is the New Cool” features interviews and appearances by The Last Poets, former U. S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, the late actor and comedian Tommy Ford, Stic.Man from the hip hop group Dead Prez, and a host of educators, politicians, and more. “Living in an era in which we are influenced by social media and digital content, OITNC was the perfect way to reach past, present and future generations on the history and importance of organizing to continue to grow as a community at large”, says co-producer Vaungh Saber. “Organizing is the New Cool” inspires viewers to take a crucial stance and play an integral role in the revitalization of a moribund humanity. The screening is followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and will take place June 8, 2019 at 4:30PM at the Plaza Theatre- 1049 Ponce De Leon Ave NE, Atlanta, GA.
